SmartLynx saves 30 million pages with digital cockpit
SmartLynx Airlines is marking ten years of operating a fully paperless cockpit.
Since launching its 'Electronic Flight Bag' (EFB) programme in 2015, the airline headquartered in Latvia has saved more than 30 million pages of paper – equivalent to over 3,500 trees. Pilots now work entirely with digital iPads equipped with real-time tools for charts, manuals and flight performance.
"It’s been a decade of continuous improvement," said CEO Edvinas Demenius. The shift has also cut logistics and admin costs and supports accurate post-flight data processing. SmartLynx recently transitioned to 'Flightkeys 5D' for flight planning and is exploring AI-enhanced features to further optimise its flight operations.
The airline operates Airbus A320s, A321s and Boeing 737 Max 8s, and is part of the Avia Solutions Group – one of the world’s largest ACMI providers. (ah)
