Spanish ports lead in PERS certification
Valencia, Santander, and Castellón ports have achieved recertification under the EcoPorts PERS environmental standard, highlighting their commitment to sustainability. Valencia, a long-standing member since 2004, has received its eighth PERS certificate, while Santander, a member since 2012, has earned its third, and Castellón, a member since 2011, its ninth.
ESPO and EcoPorts officials praised these ports for their transparency and dedication to environmental monitoring, emphasising the importance of measuring environmental performance across different port profiles. PERS, the only port-specific environmental standard, continues to grow, with 83 ports across 25 countries now in the EcoPorts network, and 29 holding certification. The standard, assessed by LRQA Nederland BV, supports ports in maintaining high environmental standards through regular two-year renewals, fostering sustainable port operations worldwide.
