Spanish ports on their way back

Spanish ports grouped in the ‘Puertos del Estado’ entity handled 442.2 million t of goods between January and October this year, 5.4% more than in the same period of 2020. The pre-pandemic level hasn’t yet been reached, however (–5.1% versus 2019).

Conventional general merchandise registered the highest growth rate by type of cargo (+14.9%), followed by solid bulk (+11.1%), containerised cargo (+4.1%) and liquid bulk (+0.5%).

Containerised cargo increased slightly in comparison with the first ten months of 2019 (+0.2%), while conventional general goods lost 3.1%, as did solid bulk (–7.5%) and liquids (–10.4%). Ro-ro traffic is closer to recovering to pre-pandemic levels, remaining only 1.7% below the figure for 2019, compared to –2.4% for the period between January and September.

Between January and October, foreign trade totalled 237.6 million t, 4% less than in the same period of 2019. Exports continue to increase and exceeded those of 2019 by 5.3%, while the fall in imports is, once again, remarkable (–8.4%). (sh)
