                        Special trains during pandemic
In spite of Covid challenges, Indian Railways is now running as many as 1,138 mail/express trains per day in different zones of its network.
This number amounts to 65% of the trains in pre-Covid times. All important destinations across the country are connected by these special trains. The need for running more trains is constantly being reviewed, the Indian ministry of railways said.
In pre-Covid times, Indian Railways was running an average 1,768 mail/express trains per day. It is worth noting that, to date, the Indian government approved 115 pairs of mail/express trains in the month of January 2021. (ben)
