State-of-the art equipment for UP-served rail facility

Silica producer Sands has started a reconstruction project to optimise and consolidate processing assets. The company has also completed the purchase of its Diaz rail loading facility in Arkansas, USA. The plant is served by US class I railroad UP.

The reconfiguration project includes the installation of dry-process equipment at the Diaz rail facility. Dry processing at Diaz will immediately save 26 km of interplant transportation and over one hour in transload logistics.

In addition, the company has implemented a programme to increase its own truck fleet. On a per mile (1.6 km) basis, costs savings are estimated to be approximately 25% compared to outside contract trucking. (ben)
