Steelpaint and BW Epic Kosan enhance ship care
Steelpaint's partnership with BW Epic Kosan underscores the importance of zinc primers in protecting structural steel on vessels. As shipowners seek coatings that reduce docking time and extend maintenance intervals, BW Epic Kosan's continued reliance on Steelpaint's Stelpant-PU-Zinc coating since 2017 demonstrates the effectiveness of zinc-based polyurethane systems. The most recent delivery was for the LPG carrier Epic Sunter, set for drydocking in the UAE.
The coating has successfully performed through multiple drydocking cycles, requiring only minor touch-ups. Steelpaint's director, Frank Müller, notes the zinc-rich primer offers vital cathodic protection in demanding marine environments, extending asset life and reducing downtime. BW Epic Kosan's R&D manager, Niraj Singh, emphasises its reliable performance, leading to smaller repair areas and less surface degradation. This collaboration highlights how advanced coating technologies improve ship maintenance efficiency and sustainability.
