Strasbourg's ports to ramp up intermodal offer

The ports of Strasbourg are increasingly focusing on eco-friendly intermodal transport. The plan is to expand the rail infrastructure and create incentives to encourage more transport operators to switch from road to rail.

The present study project, which was recently presented to the public, specifically envisages the construction of a new zero-emission rail terminal - a first for an inland port, according to the port administration.

The rail terminal is also intended to create additional capacity for railfreight traffic, which is expected to double in volume by 2030.

Currently, 17 train shuttles a week connect the ports of Strasbourg with the seaports of Zeebrugge (Belgium) and Rotterdam (Netherlands), among other destinations. (ben)
