Strengthening port infrastructure and international trade

Ports of Indiana hosted a high-level trade mission from the port of Antwerp-Bruges recently to expand economic ties and explore new container routes between Europe and the US Midwest.

The visit builds on a 2024 memorandum of understanding and targets sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, steel, chemicals and agriculture.

On the same day ports of Indiana launched construction of the first new warehouse in 25 years at the Burns Harbor site. The USD 10 million project includes a 7,800 sqm facility and a 1.65 acre laydown yard.

It forms part of a USD 77 million multimodal expansion endeavour designed to improve logistics capacities, enhance flexibility and unlock new trans-Atlantic trade flows from Lake Michigan by 2026. (ah)
