Sweden and Seychelles partner for green port of Victoria
The Seychelles Ports Authority and the Rise Research Institutes of Sweden have signed a landmark agreement to transform the port of Victoria into a model for climate-smart maritime infrastructure.
The deal, effective through to 2030, will align Victoria’s development with Sweden’s ‘Concept for Sustainable Ports’, and draw on best practices from Helsingborg and Umeå.
Port Victoria will be the first hub in a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) to fully adopt such a green framework, with the goal of becoming a regional leader in resilient port strategy.
“This partnership brings global innovation to our shores,” said Seychelles transport minister Antony Derjacques. Supported by Sweden’s Rise, the collaboration includes capacity building, pilot projects and knowledge exchange. (ah)
