Swiss air cargo experts inform online

GS1 Switzerland organised its third “online talk” on the corona crisis this week, exploring the challenges that lie ahead for the (Swiss) air cargo industry.

While Peter Somaglia (l.), president IG Air Cargo Switzerland, highlighted the vital importance of this industry for the economy and society in this time of crisis, traffic volumes on the three national airports testified to a difference in business focus: while air cargo volumes in Zurich and Geneva have fallen 20% - 30% below pre-crisis levels, Gian Carlo Alessi, head of cargo at Basel-Mulhouse airport, reported that volumes had remained virtually unchanged.

Both gentlemen agreed that there will not be an “everything is back to the way it was” after the crisis, but they were also optimistic regarding positive innovations that could benefit the industry in the future. (ah)
