Swiss Freight transport performance weakens
Freight transport performance in Switzerland increased only by only 0.2% in 2022 compared to the previous year. This is less than the real gross domestic product (GDP), which increased by 2.6%. According to the latest federal statistics, freight transport in Switzerland has been growing significantly less strongly than the economy since 2012.
In 2022, transport performance on Switzerland’s road and rail network amounted to 27.9 billion tkm. The uptick of 0.2% is solely due to an increase in railfreight traffic, which grew by 0.8%, while road transport performance remained virtually unchanged at -0.1%. Rail's share of transport performance in 2022 was 38%, that of road 62%. (ben)
