Swissport ramps up sustainability and expands in Italy
Swissport is investing EUR 1.5 billion over five years to green its global operations, including fleet electrification and renewable energy.
25% of its global ground-handling fleet is already electric, with Swiss airports nearing 55% electrification by end-2025. The group has also installed solar systems at key cargo facilities in Frankfurt, Nairobi and Spain.
At the same time, Swissport has launched cargo handling operations at Milan Malpensa. The new 4,000 sqm facility (pictured) supports import services and will soon expand to general freight. "Swissport’s cargo strategy in Italy has always been to expand at Malpensa," said Swissport Italia cargo director Massimo Roccasecca. The company also plans to further grow ground handling, lounge and executive aviation services in Italy soon. (ah)
