Switzerland: private rail company buys freight locomotives

The Swiss railfreight company BLS Cargo is purchasing 25 new multi-system locomotives that are equipped for rail networks from Belgium or the Netherlands to Italy. The new traction units will modernise and extend the fleet, the company says.

The engines are Vectron locomotives manufactured by Siemens. BLS Cargo already has 15 locomotives of this type. The new purchases will be delivered as from the end of 2020 to 2025. They are equipped with traction and train control systems that can be deployed for train services in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherland and Belgium. (ben)
