Switzerland updates lorry tolls
From 2029 on, Switzerland will apply its LSVA performance-related heavy vehicle fee to electric trucks, aiming to ensure that all freight vehicles contribute to infrastructure costs and support the modal shift to rail.
A rebate scheme valid until 2035 will still incentivise investment in low-emission vehicles, offering planning security for fleet operators.
Today, around 90% of trucks fall under the lowest LSVA tariff, while more battery or hydrogen-powered vehicles remain exempt.
Under the revised law, Euro VI and new Euro VII combustion trucks will move to a higher tariff category, though Euro VII models will benefit from temporary discounts. The government plans to announce changes to category definitions at least seven years in advance in future. (js)
