Sydney's railfreight network transformed

After 2.5 years of construction work, Australia has finished duplicating the Botany Rail line and built a new Cabramatta Loop. The Australian government says that the combined projects will significantly improve freight capacity.

On the Botany Rail line, the remaining 2.9 km section of single line track between Mascot and Port Botany has been duplicated, including the construction of four new and replacement rail bridges.

In addition to new bridge structures and track alignments, the Cabramatta Loop Project has provided a 1.65 km section of new track adjacent to the existing track, allowing freight trains travelling in opposite directions to pass each other. (ben)
