Takeover of CMQ short line railroad completed

North American transcontinental railway Canadian Pacific (CP) has concluded the transaction related to the acquisition of the Central Maine & Quebec Railway (CMQ). The acquisition of CMQ in the USA is still subject to approval by the surface transportation board.

The short line railroad owns 774 km of rail lines primarily in Quebec and Maine and gives CP an improved coast-to-coast network across Canada and an increased presence in the eastern USA.

In particular, the acquisition will provide seamless, safe and efficient access to ports at Searsport, Maine and to Saint John, New Brunswick, via the Eastern Maine Railway Company and the New Brunswick Southern Railway. (ben)
