Teesport automates weighbridge operations
PD ports has introduced automated weighbridge systems at Teesport and Hartlepool, with a capacity to handle up to 7,000 t of bulk cargo per weighbridge daily. The new technology replaces manual processes with automated traffic lights, automatic number plate recognition cameras and driver self-service terminals, integrated into the 'Commtrac' terminal operating system.
"Automation has completely changed the way we operate," said Grant Honzik, PD Ports’ director of bulk operations. "By removing manual intervention, we’ve cut turnaround times, reduced congestion and provided more accurate and timely data," he added. Accoring to PD ports the upgrades deliver faster turnaround, greater accuracy and improved customer reporting. With five automated weighbridges at Tees Dock and one at Hartlepool, PD Ports is creating a port environment that aims to enhance efficiency and safety in bulk cargo handling. (js)
