The seismograph of cargo

Making sure goods in transit are safe and secure remains an important aspect of logistics services. Marc Wegmüller, managing director of the Attikon-based firm Wegmüller AG, cites some key aspects of the service. A tailor-made packaging solution with cushioning and protection against corrosion is important; and GPS data loggers have proved their worth.

A load can be made secure in a number of ways. If a claim should arise, then you can save a lot of bother with a GPS data logger. It records the transport route, and the shocks, jolts and further parameters. This enables managers to quickly localise crucial transport incidents. You should ensure that you’ve packed your goods optimally, as this can help to prevent damage. Wegmüller AG is experienced in this field and offers the concomitant packaging solutions with the most suitable corrosion protection.

Packaging made of wood or corrugated cardboard for your industrial goods

In Attikon, near Winterthur in the Swiss canton of Zurich, we produce tailor-made packaging solutions made of wood or corrugated cardboard, offering packaging solutions for heavy machinery, construction parts, long pipes as well as oversized turbines, amongst other things. Marc Wegmüller, the owner of Wegmüller AG, says that “creating secure packaging is our passion. We cushion products that can only handle slight jolting with special inlays made of felt, cardboard or foam.”

Goods arrive in their best state if they’re transported in tailor-made packaging. Marc Wegmüller has a word of warning too though. “Sometimes the packaging can’t salvage a situation, for example, if a crate is dropped, or a fork-lift truck rams it”. Such incidents make monitoring progress with a data logger worth it.

Quickly localise transport incidents thanks to a GPS data logger
The firm MSR-Electronic from Seuzach, which is also in the canton of Zurich, banked on Wegmüller AG’s know-how when developing the transport data logger. Marc Wegmüller says that “the most important measures are jolts, shocks, temperature fluctuations, humidity, pressure and light.” MSR’s data logger is recognised by insurance firms and reliably records the data for months. The latest generation of loggers has a GPS receiver, to localise incidents. GPS tracking soon reveals the site of the accident, which significantly simplifies and speeds up claims processing for the various parties involved.

Pack and dispatch your goods and evaluate the data logger in case of a claim

Wegmüller AG also offers a packaging and dispatch service. The goods concerned can either be packed directly at a customer’s own site or in our factory in Attikon. Marc Wegmüller knows that “customers often don’t have the time or lack the know-how to pack their own gods. We know the ropes and know which goods will be transported safely in which packaging.” Besides the packaging itself the labelling of the crates, the best corrosion protection and correctly fixing the data logger in place also play key roles. If you have your goods packed by Wegmüller AG you get complete peace of mind all round.
