The world’s largest containership - CMA CGM presents the «Marco Polo»
The CMA CGM group commissioned the «Marco Polo», the largest containership ever built, on 7 November.
The CMA CGM shipping line took over the pole position in the world containership rankings in Ningbo (China) recently, when it took delivery of the its new 16,000 teu vessel. The gigantic unit is 396 m long, 54 m wide and has a draught of 16 m. The newbuilding is owned by CMA CGM and is the first in a series of three vessels of this size that the line has ordered. It will sail under the flag of the United Kingdom. The next ship in the series is expected to be delivered in 2013.
The Marco Polo is deployed in CMA CGM’s emblematic French Asia Line (FAL 1). The ship set sail from Ningbo on its first voyage on 7 November headed for Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Yantian, Port Klang, Tangier, Southampton, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre, Malta, Khor Fakkan and Jebel Ali before it will return to Ningbo on 23 January 2013.
