Three stand united for hydrogen

Ardmore Shipping, owner and operator of tankers, Element 1 (E1), headquartered in Bend, Oregon, and Maritime Partners, headquartered in New Orleans, have formed an equal share partnership called "e1 Marine" to bring E1’s methanol-to-hydrogen technology to the marine sector.

The JV plans to push E1’s hydrogen generation systems into the marine industry, including shipping, refrigerated containers, offshore energy, renewable energy and certain port infrastructure and related applications.

Maritime Partners is a provider of financing solutions and newbuilding support to the maritime industry, with a focus on US Jones Act vessels and inland marine transportation.

Anthony Gurnee, Ardmore's CEO, spoke of "a strategic relationship" that will foster "our energy transition plan (announced in February 2021), which includes a focus on transition technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the shipping industry and utilising Ardmore’s engineering and marketing capabilities to accelerate their deployment."
