Trains can ship a great deal more waste

Rail Cargo Group (RCG) transports 8 million t of waste annually, 12% of the total waste in Austria. According to RCG, the potential is much higher and the prospects for an expansion of waste transports by rail are currently good.

In Austria, from 2023, all waste transports over a distance of more than 300 km must be carried out by train. Now there are plans to gradually extend this compulsory regulation to all distances of 100 km or more and to set up a platform for calling up offers for such transports.

Thanks to innovative container solutions, CO2-neutral trains can now ship even small quantities easily and effectively, at any time. Household waste or ash and slag are particularly suitable for railfreight. (ben)
