                        Transnet upgrades railfreight infrastructure
The project will enhance the efficiency and capacity of South Africa’s freight rail systems, the carrier said. It includes rail network infrastructure renewal, locomotive overhauls, and wagon fleet renewal. The programme aims to restore freight rail volumes in South Africa, improve operational performance and reliability, and contribute to a sustainable future.
For the modernisation, the South African railfreight company Transnet will receive a ZAR 5 billion (USD 0.28 billion) loan from the New Development Bank (NDB). The institution was founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in 2015. (ben)
