Transport industry calls for action

Thirteen European transport associations are concerned about the current limitations imposed on road freight transport across Tyrol in Austria. In a letter sent to EU commission president Ursula von der Leyen, they call to stop Austria’s illegal anti-transit measures.

Austria's policy to limit road haulage in the Tyrol region is increasingly hindering the ability to provide services and move goods along the Brenner axis, the International Road Union (IRU) said.

Since time windows for trucks to drive over the Brenner Pass are becoming even shorter, massive traffic congestion, with queues of up to 70 km, has recently become a regular occurrence in Bavaria. In addition, the truck drivers involved have to wait in precarious conditions. (ben)
