Transporting more beer by rail

The German Krombacher brewery is shifting up to 750 trucks to the railways, with DB Cargo implementing shuttle services for this purpose: the trains leave the brewery with full bottles and return with empties.

From Kreuztal, the shuttles call at the Grossbeeren terminals which supply the greater Berlin area, and at hubs in Hamburg and Bremen. DB Cargo organises the entire transport chain from the collection of the full bottles to the delivery of the empties and provides all the equipment.

The Siegen-Wittgenstein municipal railway is an important local partner. It is a co-operator of the "Südwestfalen Container Terminal" in Kreuztal and provides the necessary shunting services on site. (ben)
