Tri-partnership for autonomous rail pilot in India

DP World, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Nevomo have signed a mou to explore autonomous freight transport by magnetic railway lines in India.

The agreement covers a 750 m long pilot line in the port of Deendayal in Kandla (Gujerat, India) and will make use of Nevomo’s ‘MagRail’ technology to move cargo autonomously on existing tracks. The initiative aims to boost port-hinterland efficiency and simultaneously reduce CO₂ emissions.

‘MagRail’ enables self-propelled, electric wagons powered by linear motors, enhancing throughput for container and bulk freight. The pilot project is in line with India’s ‘National Logistics Policy’.

The mou was signed in Kandla on 15 July 2025. The partners believe the collaboration represents a step towards sustainable, tech-driven logistics infrastructure. (gy)
