                        Trois-Rivières' first 2024 vessel
The 'Lowlands Hope' sailing under the Singapore flag was the first vessel of 2024 to dock at the Port of Trois-Rivières in Quebec on 2 January, after a 17-day Atlantic crossing.
Departing from Sao Luis, Brazil, with 21 Indian and Filipino crew, it carried alumina for Alcoa - Deschambault's aluminium production. The ship qualified as the first vessel because it arrived from an overseas port without Canadian stopovers and performed port operations in Trois-Rivières, which was honoured in the 58th annual ceremony.
The ceremony also highlighted the challenges of winter navigation on the St. Lawrence River and acknowledged the efforts of Canada’s Coast Guard, whose ice breakers keep channels open. (pb)
