Trucks to pay on more German roads

The German government has decided to extend its road charging scheme to another 1,100 km of trunk roads from 1 July 2015. Three years later (2018) trucks will have to pay a toll on all national highways.

In addition, the weight limit for vehicles subject to road charging is to be lowered from the present 12 t to 7.5 t from 1 October 2015. A new special category for particularly environment friendly trucks will be created at the start of 2015, in order to promote the deployment of euro VI trucks. From the same date, a uniform toll charge will apply on motorways and national trunk roads.

HGV road charging has been in force on around 12,800 km of German motorways since January 2005, and on certain trunk roads since August 2012. (ben)
