Turkey: Railport to handle 105,000 teu in first phase

Industrial companies in Turkey are getting a new competitive mode of transport for long distances with the construction of the country’s first privately-run inland cargo terminal, or railport.

The new project is being developed by the Turkish logistics company Arkas and the German inland port operator Duisport. The EBRD and ICBC will each loan USD 30 million to partly finance the project.

Railport will facilitate railfreight transport within Turkey and between Asia and Europe. In the first phase of the project, the railport will handle 105,000 teu and 500,000 t of general cargo. It will sport some 5,000 sqm storage space. (ben)
