Turning light into speed
The ‘Silvretta’ at sea and in the air to hit the road. Gebrüder Weiss is once again supporting ETH Zurich’s ‘aCentauri Solar Racing Team’ by transporting its solar-powered racing car to Australia. The vehicle and equipment made it to the starting point by sea and by airfreight.
Gebrüder Weiss has entered into a repeat of a partnership for a fast solar-powered car of a rather special kind, as it is once again the official logistics partner of the ‘aCentauri Solar Racing Team’ of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule ETH).
Gebrüder Weiss will take over all of the necessary transport tasks so that the team of students, including their technological team and the vehicle, can take part in the race in Australia in August. The firm already sent the technical equipment off by seafreight in May.
After a final test drive, the solar-powered racing car was transported from Frankfurt airport to Australia as airfreight. The transport was prepared in Gebrüder Weiss’s ‘Air and Sea Terminal’ at its Wolfurt site, which handles goods according to the standards laid down by the International Air Transport Association (Iata). As soon as the vehicle arrives in Australia it’ll be taken over by Gebrüder Weiss’s team from Adelaide and delivered to the university there.
3,000 km across the Australian outback
“Collaborations such as these are in line with our understanding of true partnership – long-term, trusting and with a focus on a sustainable future for mobility,” says Frank Haas, the head of communications at Gebrüder Weiss.
Two years ago the team finished in 12th place, having come 13th in the previous year. Now it wants to improve. “The students already showed impressively in 2023 that solar mobility works – now we wish them every success on their way to the top ten,” Haas said. The 3,000 km race through the outback starts on 24 August. It has been run for more than 30 years, with the aim of testing and implementing new technologies.
