Two new "Transverse" tugs

Svitzer has signed a contract with Uzmar Shipyard to build two new "Transverse" tugs for its Australian business.

Svitzer CEO Kasper Friis Nilaus, CEO of the company which is part of A.P. Moller-Maersk: "These tugs offer significant improvements in operational efficiency, flexibility and sustainability", but also meet the full range of complex harbour and terminal towage environments: an estimate shows that they deliver 10-15% reduction in fuel use compared to other tugs on the market.

Svitzer Australia’s operation in the port of Newcastle (NSW) will welcome the two new ships, which will be put in operation in 2025. They will be the first tugs to be deployed in Australia, and the second and third globally. The vessels are designed to maximise the forces used for braking and steerage during towage. (lh)
