UK–Italy rail link
Neill & Brown has introduced a railfreight service linking the UK and Italy through a joint venture with its Italian partner Sogedim.
The companies have invested in 'piggyback trailers', aiming to enable seamless intermodal transport in one of Europe’s busiest freight corridors, as the company reported. Six trailers designed for both rail and road will carry goods from the firm’s Hessle base via Hull ferry routes to Zeebrugge, where they’ll be transferred onto trains bound for Italy.
Neill & Brown has long offered daily deliveries between the two countries, and wants to "provide a new, sustainable transport option," as the company stated. Logistics director Carl Andrew (pictured) highlighted the venture as a significant investment in efficiency and reliability. (js)
