United return expands Berlin long-haul network

United Airlines is returning to Berlin BER today (28 March 2022) after a good two years’ absence, with the arrival of a flight from New York (EWR).

Initially the year-round Boeing B767 flight will operate six times a week (and daily from 5 May), making it the German capital's first non-stop connection with the USA. The US airline will follow this up with a seasonal service to Washington (IAD) between 27 May and 29 October. Plans to launch direct connections from other cities in the USA to Berlin have not yet been specified.

Beyond the USA, BER’s CEO Aletta von Massenbach has not yet named any concrete plans for additional long-haul flights. The airport currently offers direct flights to Doha and Singapore (via Athens). Berlin saw air volumes of around 27,500 t in 2021, 7,500 t less than in the pre-Covid-19 year of 2019. (ah)http://ber.berlin-airport.de
