Unresolved issues for aviation in Africa

The Solidarity Fund took delivery of a consignment of PPE which arrived in South Africa earlier this month as part of its humanitarian intervention to provide much-needed PPE for frontline health workers. The delivery was made possible by a partnership with South African Airways (SAA) as well as BP and Total.

Justice Luthuli, acting general manager of SAA Cargo: "The collaboration [...] was a source of pride and fulfilment."

However, no decision has yet been taken on how the state intends to deal with the insolvent airline, while many employees have not been paid their salaries for May.

Air Mauritius is also still searching for a means to remedy its huge financial problems, while Namibia’s president Hage Geingob has advocated the liquidation of Air Namibia. (ah)
