UPS expands its facilities in Zurich

UPS is building a new facility for sorting and delivering parcels in Bülach near Zurich (Switzerland). “We have decided to increase our cargo handling capacities owing to growing demand. We aim at continuing to link our customers up to UPS’s intelligent, global logistics network,” says Michiel van Veen, country manager of UPS Switzerland.

The company plans to open the Zurich hub, which will have an operational area of 6,300 sqm, by the end of 2020. The new centre will replace the hub in Rümlang and offer a sorting capacity of 5’500 parcels per hour, which will be 50% above the current level. Since the new location will combine parcel, freight and supply chain services under one roof, customers will benefit from a higher level of efficiency. About 200 UPS employees are expected to work in the new hub.

Currently, UPS employs a staff of more 680 people in six locations in Switzerland. The company has been offering cargo handling services in this country since 1988. (mw)
