UPS opened new parcel and distribution centre in Bülach near Zurich at the end of March this year. It replaces the company's previous centre in Rümlang, which had been operating for 25 years. The new hub is located not far from the city centre and Zurich Airport.
The facility has an operating area of 6,300 sqm and a sorting capacity of 5,500 parcels per hour, about 50% more than in the previous building.
The hub has six unloading bays for trucks and three for Sprinters, in addition to 102 bays for the familiar brown delivery vehicles. UPS will meet about 60% of its own energy needs from solar panels installed on the roof of the building. (sh)
