US short line railroad to improve infrastructure

The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) in USA has awarded a USD 750,000 grant to the Columbus & Ohio River Rail Road (CUOH), an affiliate of G&W. With the grant, the US short line railroad will improve the capacity of its Newark Yard and thus help avoid blocks on railroad crossings in Zanesville.

The work consists of the building of a 1.74 km of track at Newark Yard and the installation of two radio-controlled switch machines in Zanesville.

Newark Yard is CUOH’s primary classification yard. Railcars are sorted there for final distribution to area customers or built into trains bound for interchange. CUOH anticipates an increase of 4,000 carloads in 2023. (ben)
