Used truck values drop in the US

Preliminary figures from ACT Research show that US Class 8 same dealer used truck retail sales rose 14% month-on-month in August, but average prices fell. According to Steve Tam, vice-president at ACT Research, the average retail price declined 5% to USD 57,600, contrary to expectations of an 8% increase. "Like volumes, prices also experience seasonal fluctuations. August’s decline was counter to expectations," he added. Auction values dropped 6% and wholesale prices were down 11%, bringing the combined average sale price across all channels 5% lower month-on-month.

US Classes 3-8 Used Trucks report tracks pricing, mileage and age trends, including data on leading Class 8 models from Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, Volvo and Mack. "This report is utilised throughout the industry, including by commercial vehicle dealers, to gain a better understanding of the used truck market," stated ACT Research. (js)
