USPS rolls out new fleet
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is advancing its ~USD 9.6 bn initiative to upgrade its delivery fleet, with over 35,000 new vehicles now on the road, including 8,500 battery-powered models. The Postal Service aims to introduce a total of 106,000 new vehicles by 2028, comprising 45,000 next-generation electric vehicles and 21,000 commercially available battery-electric vehicles. Alongside this upgrade, USPS is enhancing its infrastructure by installing charging stations for the growing number of zero-emission electric vehicles, already exceeding 14,000 in purchase.
The new vehicles have generated enthusiasm among employees due to their improved safety features and ergonomic designs. According to Lyle Meyer, a letter carrier who recently utilised a next-generation delivery vehicle, the focus on safety, including automatic parking features and enhanced visibility, has made the vehicles more efficient and user-friendly. As USPS continues this multi-year rollout, more vehicles will soon be deployed, particularly around new sorting and delivery centres, ensuring rapid advancement towards a modernised fleet.
