Uzbekistan Airways makes record 787 order
Uzbekistan Airways has placed its largest-ever aircraft order with Boeing, signing for 14 787-9s and securing options for eight more. The deal, announced in New York in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will modernise the carrier’s fleet and strengthen its role as Central Asia’s aviation hub.
Already the region’s first 787 operator (2016), the airline plans to expand its long-haul network to the US and other markets. Each 787-9 provides up to 25 t of bellyhold capacity, adding significant lift for exports such as textiles, perishables and automotive parts. The order underlines Uzbekistan Airways’ dual strategy of passenger growth and cargo development, while Boeing pointed to the 787’s fuel efficiency and flexibility as key to the carrier’s long-term expansion.
