Van Staey takes the reins in Belgium
Loïc Van Staey took over as managing director of the Koninklijke Belgische Redersvereniging (KBRV – the royal Belgian shipowners’ association) on 1 July, succeeding Wilfried Lemmens. He underlined the need for close cooperation between stakeholders to maintain global supply chains amid growing geopolitical tensions.
Van Staey emphasised Belgium’s maritime strengths – from its fleet and education system to its tradition of balanced policymaking – as key factors for success in the face of current challenges. He aims to reinforce Belgian shipping’s leadership in innovation, decarbonisation and digitalisation on global platforms.
The KBRV represents shipowners active in international shipping and offers operational, legal and technical support while promoting the sector’s long-term growth.
