VCFI reports stabilised growth

The Valencia Containerised Freight Index (VCFI), which measures the trend and evolution of container transport costs by sea from the port of Valencia (Spain), closed the year with a 4.14% increase in December compared to November.

This rise continues the trend of the last five months of the year, where the monthly increases were more moderate than those between January and July. Thus the VCFI reached a value of 4,063.59 points at the close of 2021, rising by 185.5% compared to December 2020 and by 306.36% since the beginning of the series in January 2018.

High demand for port traffic, the price of marine fuel and congestion in some regions of the USA marked the end of 2021. The VCFI rose for every geographical area, except for Atlantic Europe, where increases of 1.21% in the Western Mediterranean and 2.95% in the Far East stood out. (ah)
