Vertom vessels equipped with Wärtsilä hybrid drive

Wärtsilä will deliver an integrated hybrid propulsion solution for four new 10,700 dwt 'tween deckers for Dutch owner Vertom.

The geared cargo vessels will feature Wärtsilä 25 engines combined with a hybrid PTO/PTI/PTH system, enabling zero-emission sailing modes.

The ships are part of Vertom’s fleet renewal, focused on sustainable shipping. The propulsion package includes a CPP, transverse thruster and 'EcoControl' software for real-time efficiency optimisation. Designed by Groot Ship Design, the vessels are under construction at Chowgule Shipyards in India and will enter service on the Europe Caribbean Line from 2027.

Integration partners include Eekels Technology as system integrator. Wärtsilä’s systems are scheduled for delivery in 2026. (ah)
