Victoria state unveils long-term freight plan

The government of the state of Victoria (Australia) has launched a long-term strategic freight and logistics plan up to 2050. The scheme is to improve freight efficiency, grow productivity and better connect Victorian businesses with their national and international markets. The plan includes investments of AUD 1.6 billion (USD 1.46 billion) to expand the freight network and gateway capacity, as well as upgrade rail, port and air infrastructure. The government wants to permit higher productivity freight vehicles (HPFVs) to increase the road transport efficiency. Container trade is expected to quadruple by 2050 in Victoria. (ben)
