VPI: workshops must stay open

The association of wagon keepers (Verband der Güterwagenhalter, VPI) calls upon the German federal government to ensure that workshops remain in operation in Germany and throughout the EU.

“Without maintenance and essential repairs of rolling stock, there is a risk that railfreight services and thus important supply chains are held up. Workshops are systemically relevant,” the association said.

Wagon keepers depend on a network of operative workshops across Europe. Precautionary quarantine for workshop staff would noticeably reduce the availability of wagons and have a negative impact on railfreight services, the VPI warns. More than 150 maintenance workshops are organised in the VPI. (ben)
