WA commits AUD 204 million to ports
The government of Western Australia is investing AUD 204 million in the federal state’s ports in its 2025–26 budget.
The port of Fremantle will receive AUD 88 million for wharf strengthening and AUD 20 million for a new tug facility. Regional upgrades include AUD 35 million for road resurfacing in Port Hedland, AUD 3.5 million for new berths at Geraldton and AUD 14 million for biosecurity infrastructure in Wyndham.
Planning and design funds are also allocated for projects in Broome, Derby and Albany. In addition, AUD 5 million will support a Supply Chain Resilience Fund.
WA premier Roger Cook (pictured on the left) said the investment secures the State’s trading future and supports economic diversification. Ports minister Stephen Dawson (pictured on the right) highlighted the strategic role of ports, which handle around half of Australia’s sea trade. All ports in WA are state-owned, enabling targeted long-term planning.
