Wallenius and Hansen present ro-ro design
Wallenius Marine and Knud E. Hansen have unveiled a new ro-ro concept at the 'Donsö Shipping Meet', based on the Sleipner PCTC design and data from the vessels 'Future Way' and 'Way Forward'.
The 170 m ship features an engine room located in the bow, freeing space for 2,720 lane metres of cargo, equal to 181 trailers. Loading and unloading are optimised via a stern ramp spanning the full width of the main deck.
Propulsion is provided by a dual-fuel electric powertrain using LNG, LBG, MGO or biodiesel, combined with Azipods for 360° steerable manoeuvrability in congested ports. The concept also incorporates readiness for wing sails, shore power, batteries and fuel cells, ensuring adaptability to future energy sources. (js)
