Western Global pilots vote to join Alpa

The US National Mediation Board (NMB) has certified the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (Alpa) as the bargaining representative for the 180 pilots of Florida-based carrier Western Global Airlines.

The NMB announced that 69% of the eligible pilots participating in the election voted for the union which was founded in 1931 and which represents 59,000 pilots at 35 US and Canadian airlines.

Alpa's president Capt. Joe DePete: "The addition of Western Global pilots’ voices will strengthen Alpa and allow us all to be more effective in advancing aviation and promoting the airline pilot profession."

As Alpa members, Western Global pilots will now have access to a comprehensive network of resources, including the largest nongovernmental aviation safety organisation in the world. (ah)
