WH Davis is exporting again

WH Davis, a UK railway wagon maker and part of Buckland Rail, has won a EUR 44 million export contract to supply 150 freight wagons to Ireland. Backed by UK Export Finance (UKEF), the deal marks the firm’s first export in 20 years and the first order under a ten-year framework that could reach 400 wagons.

Deliveries are set to begin in summer 2026, with all wagons in service by end-2027. The agreement will expand the workforce by 25%, adding 20 jobs at the Shirebrook plant, where employment will grow from 80 to 100, as the UK government reports. "This is a significant milestone for WH Davis and reaffirms the strength of UK manufacturing on the international stage", stated Andy Houghton, managing director of WH Davis. (js)
