White smoke in the Port of Trieste

On the Adriatic coast, the Italian Port of Trieste has found a new international partner. The new free port at Bagnoli della Rosandra (FREEeste) is home to a new, multi-year partnership between Interporto di Trieste (Trieste Freight Terminal), the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and British American Tobacco.

A few days ago, BAT announced the opening of its new "A Better Tomorrow Innovation Hub" in Trieste, an innovation and sustainability centre, with a total investment of up to EUR 500 million.

The hub will be built on 20,000 sqm at Bagnoli della Rosandra, a part of the Trieste Freight Terminal operating in a free port regime, and will host a manufacturing plant for the Italian and global market in addition to BAT’s digital applications: an innovation lab for digital transformation and marketing, dedicated to research, development, and production lines for the manufacturing of reduced-risk goods.

The agreement involves the Trieste Freight Terminal both in building the new infrastructure and in managing the inbound and outbound logistics services of the hub. Construction work will begin shortly and the first module is planned to be completed and operational in 2022. (cd)
