Wind energy for 312,000 Australian homes
AAL Shipping (AAL) has completed the final sailing of a major wind energy project in Queensland, Australia, delivering 83 turbines to the 500 MW Wambo Wind Farm. The two-year project involved 18 sailings from China, including Dongzao, Lüsi, Tianjin and Taicang, to Brisbane using AAL’s A-, G- and S-Class heavy lift vessels.
Cargo included 80 m blades, eight-section towers, and components weighing up to 90 t. The final shipment, completed by "AAL Genoa", marked the end of Stage Two. The wind farm is a joint venture between Cubico Sustainable Investments and Stanwell.
AAL used synthetic lashings to improve safety and reduce damage risk during handling. "This helps power 312,000 homes with clean energy," said Frank Mueller, GM Oceania. "We adapted to shifting timelines and deployed nine different vessels." The project strengthens AAL’s position as a leading carrier for Asia–Australia project cargo and highlights its commitment to energy transition logistics. (ah)
